Differentiated Gas Coordinating Council Blog

The Differentiated Gas Coordinating Council (DGCC) recently hosted its first official “Washington, D.C. Fly-In” to meet with federal policymakers in the Executive and Legislative branches. This inaugural event served to continue our ongoing dialogues with Executive branch officials and introduce key Congressional policymakers to the opportunities created by differentiated gas and advanced methane technologies to promote American energy and climate leadership.
On day one, DGCC Members met with officials from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and the U.S. Department of State. The DGCC followed up with the DOE on its recent Roundtable Discussion at CERAWeek in March, discussing the importance of methane emissions mitigation, voluntary market action, and the need to enact best practices for measurement, reporting, and verification requirements. Members then spoke to the State Department, explaining how America’s energy sector can lead in methane abatement while answering the call for stable, affordable energy around the world.
On day two, Members met with nearly two dozen Congressional offices in both the House and Senate and across the political spectrum. DGCC members educated members of Congress and their staff on the growing differentiated gas market, what enables differentiated gas, and how Congress can cement America’s leadership. As Congress works to address the affordability, reliability, and cleanliness of the nation’s energy supply, it must be made aware of the growing and important role of differentiated gas.
Moving forward, the DGCC will continue to grow its engagement across the federal government to promote advanced, measurement-informed emission calculations, and trusted and transparent emissions data to ensure that natural gas remains a destination fuel for America and the rest of the world in a net-zero future.
